I have been reading about IPad for about a month now. Since the CES 2010 when many companies showed their tablets everything was discarded even without a look in anticipation of the iSlate (the rumored name of the apple tablet). For weeks there rumor mills were on a high of what it looks like and how wonderfully it works. Finally when Steve Jobs introduced it on Jan 27th 10.00 am PST all the rumor mills were shut out. We had seen the iPad or should a say an enlarged version of the iPhone.
Lets look at what works for the iPad. It has good 1Ghz processor created by apple, all of the iPhone applications will work on it, it looks sleek (don’t know how it weighs- claimed to be light), has a powerful battery life, Wi-fi- 3G enabled amazing display for the photos and e-reader (kindle should be wary of this) and that’s it, cant think of anything other than that.
For me what doesn’t work: the memory size for a device that claims to be netbook killer has unusually small capacity, neither there is extended memory support, no multi tasking, same OS as iPhone 3GS, don’t understand much difference from iTouch except that the screen is larger, Price every one is gung ho how cheap it is!!!!!!!!! Is it me only…... to be able to get a 3G enabled 64GB iPad you need to shed $829 thats expensive I will get a top laptop for that price and for a device that does half of the things of laptop why waste that much money.
All in all I think that apple has a decent product and it will find its audience. Its much improved than Newton but I can’t say that they have a winner at hand like they did with iPhone; this time apple might get the initial rave reviews because of the euphoria surrounding it but once the euphoria subsides they will have a "Job" (pun intended) at hand to sell it with current specs. It’s a neat product but I do not believe it’s a media revolution as its being made out to be. With 4G round the corner I expect apple to make many changes and release a better version by next year and who knows that might be the media revolution everyone is waiting for.
